Fresh Sounds Are In

25 Jul

Times when you were able to get someone’s attention with a demo done on a two-track tape recorder are, for better or worse, long time gone.  Beyond skillful songwriting, great vocal and original melody, listener’s ear is looking for sonic candies – expressive, convincing sounds that compliment the  song.

For this reason, it is more important than ever for a producer to stay on top of the game and make sure that her/his sound library and virtual instruments contain both the contemporary and vintage sounds. In a working studio, these additions happen on regular basis, and are rarely mentioned.  Yet, sometimes the additions are large, and can provide a major boost to your sonic palette.

That was the case with our recent purchase of Yellow Tool’s Independence Pro 2.5, a German-engineered sampler with more than 70GB of high-quality, 24-bit sounds.

It gets even better, as we have also added KitCore Deluxe to further strengthen our lineup of  virtual drums & percussions instruments. Electronic Musician magazine has done a nice video review of KitCore Deluxe. Apart from 100+ drum kits, this tool gives us ability to enhance our song production work with performances of the following famous drummers: Ben Smith (Heart), John Bishop (Ernie Watts), Terry Bozzio (Jeff Beck, Frank Zappa). Matt Sorum (Velvet Revolver), Tony Braunagel (Bonnie Raitt), Ned Douglas (Dave Stewart), Sly Dunbar (Bob Marley, Herbie Hancock, Bob Dylan), Michael Shrieve (Santana), Alan White (John Lennon, Yes), Lonnie Wilson (Brooks & Dunn, Rascal Flatts), Zoro (Lenny Kravitz).

This is shaping to be a summer of fresh sounds, indeed.
